The pause before an answer is itself an answer. In The Unwritten Room, on Thursday, I teach you how to read it.
The Story
In Jeddah, a lawyer called a counterpart she had not spoken with since June. She had prepared a short reintroduction, a line or two to reestablish the thread. She never used it. He answered, greeted her by name, and continued a conversation they had left unfinished in the spring as though the interval had not occurred.
Cultural Principle
In the Gulf, a relationship built with genuine care tends to resume at the temperature it held. The absence of any need to rebuild is itself the evidence that something real was established beforehand.
Takeaway
Notice which relationships resume without effort this season. Those are the ones already built. Take the ease as a signal of what was done well rather than as something owed to you, and give them your attention accordingly.
Until tomorrow,
Taqua
