A week of observations. On 27 August, in The Unwritten Room, I give you the structure beneath them.

The Story
In Muscat, an executive reconnected with a counterpart who had been entirely out of contact through the summer, longer than usual and without explanation. She greeted him warmly and asked nothing about where he had been. He offered a brief account of his own, unprompted, some minutes later. The relationship resumed without anything needing to be repaired.

Cultural Principle
In Gulf professional culture, requiring an explanation for an absence places a small debt on the other person. Receiving someone back without accounting keeps the relationship free of one.

Takeaway
When a counterpart returns after a long silence, greet them and move forward. If there is something to share, they will share it. Warmth offered without a question attached is warmth they can accept easily.

Until next week,
Taqua
