The Story
In Doha, at a milestone review, the client's chairman asked a program director how the project had stayed on schedule. His own team had worked hard for it. Instead, he named a young engineer on the client's side and described one decision she had made in August that saved a month. The chairman turned to her and thanked her. Her manager called him the next morning, simply to thank him.
Cultural Principle
In the Gulf, praise offered in front of someone's superior carries lasting weight. It raises the person, and it raises the relationship between both teams along with them.
Takeaway
Credit the counterpart's people where their leadership can hear it. Few gestures build goodwill as quietly, or keep it as long.
